Values
The ethos of the school is represented by its close community links and the
building of a family feel to the school. The school sets high, but achievable
expectations which is incorporate into our motto - 'Aim High'. The school values
its generation of individual support between student, teacher and parents with a
focus on appropriate discipline and promotion of self-esteem.
These
values are showcased by recognising student achievements through weekly awards
for application (Student of the Week and Best Work of the Week) and weekly and
monthly awards for positive, responsible and caring attitudes (Cool Kids and
Aussie of the Month).
High
academic achievement is recognised by the Dux of the School Honour Board.
Context
Hughesdale Primary
School No. 4176 has been established for over 80 years on the same spacious
grounds enhanced with mature trees and is located in the south west corner of
the City of
Enrolment
trends have been on the increase in recent years with the school reaching the
330+ mark in 2006.
The
school has moved from Like School Group 6 in 1997 to Like School Group 2 in
2001. This indicates a continual decrease in EMA recipients and Language Other
Than English speakers at the school.
The
challenge for the school in the future lies with DoE demographic forecasts,
which indicate that the state secondary and primary schools in the City of
The
school currently has a mixture of straight and composite classes. Specialist
programs are offered in Performing Arts, Sport, Visual Arts and Information
Technology. There is a literacy intervention program (Reading Recovery) in Year
One. Piano and guitar tuition complement the Performing Arts Program.
Special
features of the curriculum include:
Two
separate school camps for the grade 3-4 and 5-6 students.
Excursions
and incursions during the term linked to the integrated units of
study.
A
school musical production held every second year.
Life
Education Program supplementing the Health program.
Whole
school activity days (multi-age groups) held each term on a range of topics
e.g.
Maths/Science
Days; Celebrating Federation; Hughesdale Olympics.
In
2004 the school established a Resource Centre. This centre has the dual role of
operating as the school library and as the Information Technology Centre.
The
School conducts the Early Years Literacy and Numeracy programs, and runs
Literacy and Classroom Helpers programs for parents.
The
school has a range of cultures and socio economic groups providing a special
diversity.
